RSS adventures

I'm using Google reader and now have RSS feeds from a few blogs, including Planet Cataloguing, which is an automatically-generated aggregation of blogs related to cataloguing and metadata. I'm also following Madeleine's blog; there are many others that look interesting but frankly I don't want to spend my spare time online.

RSS is handy, I must say. But for me the fun part about life online is sharing photographs. Here are a couple of photos from our recent trip to Cuba.

More photos from our trip are on Picassa: the Villa Cojimar resort and beach, our trip to the town of Moron, and a few fishing shots.

Work adventures

Metadata is so fascinating! I have been thinking about it regularly as I am teaching a course on metadata and collections management in Ryerson's Photographic Preservation and Collections Management graduate program. This week we're doing Rules for Archival Description, with the assistance of our Photographic Specialist Beth in Special Collections, how RAD is that!? At the OLA conference I delivered a presentation on cataloguing electronic resources and talked about Ryerson's approach to metadata management for ebooks, ejournals, streamed videos, etc. Jane and I have been developing procedures for integrating data from our 2nd approvals vendor into the catalogue and we've been having a good time geeking out over fixed fields. I am coordinating a panel on racialized faculty experiences on campus as part of my work on the RFA (actually this has nothing to do with metadata). Thus I've been a deliquent blogger.

We're going to Cuba next week, hurray! Here are a few photographs from our first trip to that country. We spent a week in Santiago de Cuba, what an adventure that was.
